I know this question has been asked many times. Many SEOs will give you different answers to this question. At the end of the day, it would be right to say that SEO is a combination of both on-page and off-page. You cannot succeed without either of them.

You must take care of both to rank in search engines. You need to have an excellent on-page, otherwise, no matter what you do on an off-page, you will not be able to rank on search engines. And if your on-page is lousy, no matter what you do on off-page, you will not be able to rank. So, both are equally important.

The answer is simple. It is always better to have both. Why?

On-page is about optimizing your site’s content and off-page is about building quality links. Both of these are important. But if you were to pick one over the other, then there’s no doubt that the off-page part will bring you a better SEO.

On-page SEO is more important than off-page SEO?

It is easier to manipulate off-page SEO like backlinks than on-page SEO. Off-page SEO is still necessary because it gives you the initial boost in rankings. You should concentrate on both for best results.

On-page SEO is vital for ranking high in Google search engine. This is because Google judges rankings based on your site’s quality, not just its off-page factors. On-page SEO includes things like site optimization, keyword placement, content creation and so on.

Off-page SEO refers to the factors that are not related to your site, like backlinks, social media and so on. This means that on-page SEO is more important than off-page SEO.

Technically, the on-page aspects of SEO are more important.

This is because the on-page elements don’t involve getting links or convincing others to do links, but are instead the quality of the content itself.  Content is the king of the Internet, therefore, its content that should be 100% unique and in-depth.

However, there are no hard-and-fast rules here, because some pages do get higher rankings with little or no on-page SEO. If a page gets a high ranking, it is because its off-page SEO is so good that the page is a sure winner.
